Holiday Adopt-A-Family Project
Helps Homeboy Industries
December 2009
Every Holiday Season, the members, staff and friends of the County's Commission for Public Social Services personally help a worthy family in need, usually a single mother with several children. In such families there is no money to provide children with gifts of toys, clothing, or even a holiday meal.
In 2009, the annual Adopt-A-Family project of the Commission, coordinated by Judy Martell, Executive Director, chose to support Homeboy Industries with a $1000 check because of the financial difficulties facing this well known Los Angeles community service organization. Shown making the presentation to Father Gregory Boyle (center), Homeboy Industries Director, are some of the donors: Commission staff members Maria Magallanes (left) and Carmen Martinez along with Chairman Dr. Frank de Balogh (left), Commissioner James Adler, Esq. (right), and Frank de Balogh III. This welcome gesture during the Holiday Season exemplifies the on-going civic commitment of this County Commission. Since 2006, all 15 members of the Commission have foregone their monthly meeting stipends, that is, they are all volunteers working without pay for the benefit of the citizens of our great County.
