This Pre-Screening Tool can be used to determine if you may be eligible to receive Food Stamp benefits. This Pre-Screening Tool is not an application for Food Stamps. An application for Food Stamps must be made at your local Food Stamp Office.

Using the Golden State Advantage Card is the new way to access your Food Stamps and/or Cash Benefits!

Application for Food Stamp Benefits (DFA 285 A-1)

The value of your Food Stamps depends on the size of your eligible household and other eligibility.

A "household" is a person living alone or living with others or a group of people who live together and normally buy and prepare their food together. Parents and their children under age 22 who live together are considered to be a household.

The Food Stamp Program was established to improve the nutrition of people in low-income households. It does that by increasing their food-buying power, so they are able to purchase the amount of food their household needs. Food Stamps are issued in dollar denomination coupons and are used instead of money at the grocery store.

You may apply for Food Stamps at your local Food Stamp office, Community and Faith-Based Organization, at various community outreach sites, and by mail through the Health and Nutrition Hotline 1(877) 597-4777.
